The Colosseum or simply Coliseum is an oval-shaped amphitheater that is located in the center of Rome, Italy. It is also known as the Flavian Amphitheater. Having a capacity that ranges from 50000 to 80000 spectators, it was considered as the largest one being built back in 70-80 A.D. It was once used for public spectacles like mock sea battles and gladiatorial contests. It was later used for such purposes as a Christian shrine, a fortress, quarters for religious order, a quarry, and workshops. The Colosseum today is now a tourism center with thousands of annual visitors coming to see its interior arena. The amphitheater's interior has been re-floored with a museum for Eros in the building’s outer wall at the upper floor. The subterranean passageway that was used to transport gladiators and wild animals has also been restored and has now gaining major tourist attraction.
