Opened in 2008, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) is an international airport that serves Hyderabad, India and built as a replacement for Begumpet Airport. Carrying the name of India’s former Prime Minister, it is strategically situated in the geographic center of the country and is a few hours away from all the major cities in India as well as to all main cities in South East Asia and the Middle East.Hyderabad has considerably benefitted from the airport being an important economic center in India.

The airport has one passenger terminal, a cargo terminal and two runways. In March 2019, the airport has already become the sixth busiest airport by passenger traffic serving about 21.4 million passengers in the fiscal year 2018–19. Projected to cater to 50 million passengers annually, it is designed for easy expansion in the near future. Currently, it has a single terminal equipped with 12 contact boarding bridges, 30 remote stands, 62 check-in desks and 24 self-check-in kiosks, 45 immigration counters plus a business hotel. To date, there are 11 international and 9 domestic airlines flying to over 35 destinations.It is a major hub for some of India’s biggest airlines. Surrounding areas like the suburbs of Hyderabad such as Dundigal, Kukatpalli and Secunderabad are near the airport.
