Kayak Airport derives its name from the village of Sayak in Del Carmen. It was built in 1963 by then President Diosdado Macapagal and its facilities were subsequently expanded in 2008 upon an approved proposal by President Gloria Arroyo. Its concrete runway was extended and its facilities and planes upgraded to accommodate more people. The nearby town of General Luna, known as the surfing capital of the Philippines, is just an hour away from Sayak Airport and can be accessed through a motorbike ride.
