Kaitaia Airport (KAT) is a public airport located in Kaitaia, New Zealand situated in the Northland region. This airport is operated by Far North Holdings Ltd. and in 2005, KAT-Kaitaia received funds to upgrade the airport’s facilities in order to accommodate bigger aircraft. The Far North Holdings Ltd. approved the funding for the renovation project and the upgrades allowed Air New Zealand to fly to Kaitaia with bigger aircraft.
Over the next couple of years, KAT received a $1.4 million budget to expand the airport and build better facilities in the terminal. In 2015, Eagle Air operating for Air New Zealand canceled its flights between Kaitaia and Auckland. In the same year, Barrier Air took over and started operating flights with the same route.

KAT is recognized as New Zealand’s most northern airfield and has the longest runway in Northland. This airport caters to private flights including bigger aircraft as well as regular flights from Auckland. Aside from Kaitaia, KAT Airport mainly serves the towns of Kerikeri and Waipapa.
