Lilongwe International Airport - LLW
Lilongwe International Airport is an international airport that serves the Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi. It is located six kilometers west of the city center. Also known as the Kamuzu International Airport, this public airport is owned by the Department of Civil Aviation and is known under the airport code LLW. It serves as the hub for Malawi’s flag carrier – Malawian Airlines. In 2009, it handled almost 300,000 passengers. That number has since grown. There is one asphalt runway in Lilongwe International Airport, which is 3,540 meters long.

The airport was built in 1977 and construction was handled and supervised by the Nello L. Teer Company. After it began operations, it took over most of t he flights from Old Lilongwe Airport. It sits at an elevation of 4,035 feet above mean sea level. Some of the airlines than service the airport include Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, Malawian Airlines, Proflight Zambia, South African Airways, and Ulendo Airlink. Destinations include Nairobi, Lusaka, Johannesburg, Likoma, Addis Ababa, and a few more local destinations. Lilongwe International Airport is also an important cargo hub and is mostly handled by Emirates Sky Cargo.
