Maringa, Brazil is a municipality in Parana originally established as a planned urban area in 1947. Today, it is a commercial hub thriving on the agricultural industry. It was named after a song of Joubert de Carvalho, entitled “Maria do Inga”. Later on, it was shortened into “Maringa”. As such, it is also dubbed as “Song City”. Tourists are least likely to visit in October. Every August, the Japanese-Brazilian Festival is held to celebrate the Japanese heritage. The municipality has the country’s third biggest population of Japanese descendants. Meanwhile, every May, the Maringa Film Festival or Fest Cine Maringa is held. One of the best attractions in the municipality is Catedral Basílica Menor Nossa Senhora da Glória or Cathedral of Maringa, South America’s tallest church. Another popular attraction nearby is Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral or Londrina Metropolitan Cathedral. Originally, it was built in wood and was inaugurated in 1934.
