The Wagga Wagga Airport, located almost six nautical miles from the southeastern side of Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia, is a public/military type airport owned by Australia’s Department of Defence. It is an operational airbase, which is on a lease to the Wagga Wagga City Council for 30 years. Currently, the nearby Royal Australian Air Force Base Wagga serves as the air force’s ground training base, and Wagga Wagga Airport serves as a means of freight and passenger transportation. The airfield goes by the IATA code of WGA and ICAO code of YSWG.

In the late 1930s, the construction plans for the Wagga Wagga Airport began, and the village of Forest Hill was chosen as the ideal site. At the start of 1992, the airport’s 30-year lease to the Wagga Wagga City Council was granted. The lease also included a $2 million upgrade budget to renovate the airstrip so it can accommodate aircraft as big as Boeing 737s. There are currently two airlines serving the airport, with flights to Melbourne and Sydney. For the financial year of 2018-2019, WGA ranked as the 33rd busiest airport in the country, handling over 200,000 passengers.
